Medvedev, Bublik Meet in Halle Final

Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Bublik will clash in the ATP Halle final on Sunday. This marks Medvedev's first final since March 2024 and Bublik's return to the Halle final after winning the title in 2023.

  • Recent Form: Medvedev has been in strong form, reaching the Halle final without dropping a set in his first three matches, defeating Daniel Altmaier, Quentin Halys, and Alex Michelsen. He then grinded his way to victory vs rival Alexander Zverev in a tight three-set semifinal 7-6(3), 6-7(1), 6-4. Bublik also had an impressive run, notably upsetting World No. 1 Jannik Sinner in the second round and then defeating Tomas Machac in the quarterfinal. He secured his spot in final by edging Karen Khachanov 4-6, 7-6(5), 6-4. Bublik also had an outstanding run to the quarterfinals at the French Open.

The final in Halle, Germany, is an ATP 500 event played on grass. Medvedev's journey to the final included a significant 400th career win in the second round against Quentin Halys. He currently holds 20 career titles. Strangely, Medvedev has never won the same title twice. He hasn't won a title since Rome in May 2023. Bublik is seeking his fifth ATP title.

Medvedev is projected to return to the Top 10 in the PIF ATP Live Rankings on Monday. After more than 5.5 years in the top 10, he dropped to #11 in late March. His live ranking is now No. 9. Bublik, after achieving a career high at #17 last year, had fallen to No. 82 in March. He returned to the top 50 with his French Open run, and has climbed is up to No. 35 in the live rankings due to his performance in Halle.

This Halle final serves as crucial preparation for Wimbledon. Both players have demonstrated strong grass-court form, with Medvedev having won 14 of his last 18 matches on the surface leading into his quarterfinal. Bublik's win over Sinner and his overall performance indicate he could be a dangerous opponent at the upcoming Grand Slam.
