US Open early rounds carry the day

A live opener and a stack of next-round matches make the U.S. Open the day's clear focus.

All of the day's tour-level tennis is in New York, where the men's and women's draws are at the same early stage. First-round matches are still being completed and next-round ties have already been scheduled, so the schedule runs through most of the afternoon and evening.
