The ATP 500 hard-court tournament in Washington, D.C. is set to begin, with a host of top American talent looking to make a deep run.
The Mubadala Citi DC Open, an ATP 500 event, kicks off this week in Washington, D.C., but the lineup will be missing one of its most popular figures. Two-time champion Nick Kyrgios has withdrawn from the tournament due to a persistent wrist injury that has kept him off the court for much of the year. His absence is a blow to a tournament he won in 2019 and 2022.
The field is still strong. Top-ranked American Taylor Fritz is the No. 1 seed. He is joined by Italy's Lorenzo Musetti, Denmark's Holger Rune, and fellow Americans Ben Shelton and Frances Tiafoe. With such a packed draw, the path to the final will be a challenging one.
Several young Americans are also in the draw. Among them is Colton Smith, who recently won his first ATP Challenger title and successfully qualified for the main draw in Washington. Also in the spotlight are Emilio Nava and Learner Tien, who are set to face each other in an all-American match. 19-year-old Tien, in particular, has had a strong 2025 season, reaching a career-high ranking of 62 in the world.
Bookmakers favor a home-country champion. Taylor Fritz is among the top favorites to lift the trophy, with Alex de Minaur, Ben Shelton and Andrey Rublev also near the top of the market.
